We spent the last bank holiday weekend in Birch Vale, Derbyshire. The site was small with less than 10 pitches and the river Sett ran right behind our caravan which was very soothing and great for lulling us to sleep at night. We had really great weather but to be honest it wouldn’t have made a difference to us if we hadn’t. We spent our days in the van, reading, watching films and napping. It did us the world of good.
We did venture out to New Mills on the Saturday. It’s only 20 minutes away from home but we’ve never been, it’s a nice little town with a few charity shops and a really good local heritage centre. I think we’ll have a drive out there again soon and walk over the millennium bridge, it looked great but we were feeling lazy.
We had a lovely meal out in the next town along, Hayfield. It was a gorgeous mederteranian veg pie with minted Mushy peas and creamy mash. My mouth is watering at the memory.
We came home feeling relaxed and refreshed after having an unbelievably stressful few weeks.
Since then we’ve been busy finishing up jobs in the house which we’ve been putting off for months. It feels good to get them ticked off the list. Our next trip is a week in Northumberland at the end of September to celebrate my birthday. I can’t wait!
